I had a weird feeling today … I was tempted to buy a Watchmen prequel.
On the one hand, it’s a blatantly commercial tie in and an affront to one of comix’ few bona fide classics. On the other hand, it’s Darwyn Cooke in the 1940s.
I kinda wish we could get Darwyn Cooke in the 1940s without dissing a sacred text, but to use a third hand, I failed to pick up Cooke’s Parker: The Hunter series. So maybe it’s my fault.

The latest thing I read him saying was commenting on the money remark. Stating that if he needed the coin he’d go back to Hollywood. (he keeps changing his response every time someone asks) Okaaay, so this just makes him sound like a talented tool then.
He was quoted as saying that he thought Watchmen was too dark. I’m scratching my head as to why he’s doing this in the first place if it isn’t the money or the source material. His whole handling of this has completely turned me off. If he’d just shut up about the whole matter, I’d respect the guy more. The only thing I liked that he did for DC was his turn on Catwoman. New Frontier was sort of a yawn fest that lacks any of the fun that that era generated. I’d be more inclined to pick up one of those Showcase reprint books.
I love what the guy did with the Parker series but wish he’d stay away from capes. I’m sure I’ll come back to Cooke once he returns to that.
Cooke art is vastly overrated. Vastly.
Finally! Matt and I disagree on something.
